Allow us to introduce you to the essence of Surinamese cuisine, but first, let us introduce you to our grandfather Papa Aswa. He journeyed from the edges of Bandung, crossing oceans from Indonesia to Surinam in search of a new future. In Surinam he also found the love of his life so he stayed. But he lost his name as did many of our caribean brothers and sisters.
Today, we honor his legacy by reclaiming his name, and carrying it with pride.
We also take pride in the food we serve, focussing on details and offering cultural authenticity in a modern experience.
Papa Aswa used to say “No wakti tamara, San yu kan do tide” meaning “Don’t wait for tomorrow if u can do it today”.

From masala to ketjap, to all the spices our ancestors brought us overseas. We bring you the many cultures of Surinam using one of its soul ingredient: Yuca.
With the traditional "telo" as inspiration, Papa Aswa takes you beyond the flavors you knew and introduces you to The Surinam Yuca Club.
